Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani affirmed on Tuesday his country’s rejection of any violation of its sovereignty and settling scores on its soil.

During his meeting with Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler, accompanied by the Chief of the General Staff of the Turkish Army during their visit to Baghdad, al-Sudani emphasized the interdependency of Iraq’s and Turkey’s security, and those of the two with their neighboring countries.

He underscored the significance of maintaining security in Syria due to its impact on the national security of both Baghdad and Ankara.

The two sides discussed bilateral relations, in addition to the importance of strengthening bilateral security cooperation, which contributes to achieving the security and stability of the two countries.

Al-Sudani pointed out that his country has taken many measures to prevent the use of Iraqi territory to attack neighboring countries, especially on the border with Turkey.

He also emphasized the crucial need to uphold security and stability to facilitate the implementation of vital projects, including the strategic development road. This initiative encompasses railway and highway projects aimed at connecting the major port of al-Faw in Basra to the southern Turkish border.

For his part, the Turkish Minister was keen on joint security coordination in intelligence and combating terrorism, while expressing the Turkish government’s interest in the strategic development road project.

During the meeting, discussions delved into the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip and the persistent obstruction by the occupation forces of ceasefire initiatives.

Special emphasis was also placed on the crucial role of the international community and major powers in taking effective action to protect the Palestinian people from the atrocities of genocide and starvation policies.
