Al-Azhar condemns Israel’s prisoner execution law

CAIRO, (PIC)

Al-Azhar strongly condemned the Israeli approval of a law permitting the execution of Palestinian prisoners, saying that the measure constitutes a “full-fledged crime” and a clear violation of humanitarian values and international law.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Al-Azhar’s Council of Senior Scholars expressed deep denunciation of the law, noting that it effectively legalizes the execution of Palestinians and institutionalizes practices it described as ethnic cleansing. The council said the Israeli occupation is attempting to provide a false legal cover for its ongoing crimes against the Palestinian people.

The council added that this move reflects the Israeli insistence on continuing policies of violence and targeting civilians, including children, women, and the elderly, as part of a broader plan aimed at erasing the Palestinian cause and undermining the rights of its people.

The statement further warned that the Israeli occupation is seeking to mislead global public opinion by codifying its violations, backed by support from certain international powers, something that threatens regional stability and risks further escalation.

Al-Azhar called on Arab and Islamic countries to unify their positions and activate political and diplomatic tools to pressure for an end to these violations and to hold those responsible accountable at the international level.

The council concluded by stressing that the Israeli practices of killing and destruction will not alter the reality of the Palestinian cause, affirming that Palestine will remain an occupied Arab land.
