Turkish president Recep Erdogan held a high-level meeting with a delegation from the Hamas Movement on Saturday at the historic Dolmabahçe Palace in Istanbul, where Israeli ceasefire violations in the Gaza Strip were at the forefront of discussions.
The Hamas delegation included senior leaders Mohamed Darwish, Khaled Mishaal, Khalil al-Hayya, and Zaher Jabarin.
In a statement released on Sunday, Hamas said its delegation discussed with Erdogan the latest developments in Gaza, the need to uphold the ceasefire agreement, and the importance of allowing in humanitarian aid and securing basic needs for the population.
The delegation also highlighted Israel’s violations in Jerusalem and at the Aqsa Mosque, as well as the Knesset’s adoption of a racist law allowing the execution of Palestinian prisoners.
During the talks, the delegation expressed appreciation for Erdogan’s positions and Türkiye’s ongoing support for the Palestinian people’s rights and their national cause.
For his part, Erdoğan reaffirmed Türkiye’s unwavering stance in support of the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights.
He also emphasized the urgency of halting Israeli attacks on civilians and ensuring the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid into the besieged enclave.
