Sumud Flotilla announces the near launch of a land convoy toward Gaza to support reconstruction

Several members of the “Sumud Flotilla” in Tunisia revealed the imminent launch of a new land convoy and a sea flotilla toward the Gaza Strip, within the framework of efforts to support reconstruction, confirming that preparations are continuing despite the challenges.

This came during their participation in a protest march in the capital Tunis, where they emphasized the necessity of releasing seven detainees from flotilla activists, considering that their natural place is outside prisons and participating in the preparation for upcoming solidarity initiatives.

In this context, the member of the Tunisian Parliament Muhammad Ali, who is one of the participants in “Sumud Flotilla 1”, said that a number of deputies are preparing to submit a new urgent petition during the coming week, to complete a general session dedicated to ratifying the law criminalizing normalization, which has remained suspended since 2023.

For his part, the flotilla member Mouhab Al-Snoussi explained that the launch of the sea flotilla is scheduled for April 12 from Spain, noting that about 340 participants from Tunisia have applied, while procedures related to visas still hinder the completion of arrangements.

Al-Snoussi added that the initiative faces a “campaign of restriction and distortion”, but he confirmed that the flotilla will be launched on its scheduled date in support of Gaza.

For his part, the flotilla member Salaheddine Al-Masri said that “the Mediterranean Sea is an arena for resistance and not for normalization”, emphasizing the continuation of popular movements to support the Palestinian cause, and revealing the work to launch a new land convoy, despite the difficulty of revealing its details at the current time.

A previous land convoy had been launched from Tunisia on June 9 last year with the participation of about one thousand activists, but it was prevented from reaching Egypt after being intercepted by Libyan forces loyal to Major General Khalifa Haftar.

In parallel, Tunisian deputies renewed their plan to resume the discussion on the draft law criminalizing normalization, which remains suspended since 2023, despite the ratification of two articles of it, after the suspension of the session at that time by a decision linked to concerns related to external security, according to what was officially announced.

This project enjoys wide popular support in Tunisia, where the demand for its approval is raised in various solidarity events with the Gaza Strip, in light of the escalation of calls to establish a legal position rejecting normalization with Israel.
