Doctors Without Borders has warned that the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip has not ended the worsening humanitarian crisis, stressing that residents continue to face harsh living conditions and severe shortages of basic necessities months after the truce began.
In a statement released on Friday, the organization explained that although the agreement to halt fighting was important, it came too late after widespread human losses. It emphasized that humanitarian, medical, and psychological needs in Gaza remain enormous and require an urgent and comprehensive response.
The organization confirmed that conditions on the ground show ongoing suffering among the population, with shortages of medical and food supplies and continued restrictions on the entry of aid. These obstacles are hindering humanitarian efforts and leaving hundreds of thousands of people in what it describes as “miserable” conditions.
Doctors Without Borders stressed that the ceasefire is only a first step, calling for the immediate lifting of restrictions and ensuring a large and sustained flow of humanitarian aid, including food, water, and healthcare, as well as support for essential services and the rehabilitation of the health sector.
It also emphasized the need for urgent measures to address critical health conditions, including expanding medical evacuations for patients who cannot be treated inside Gaza, given the collapse of the healthcare system.
The warning comes as field reports indicate that humanitarian conditions have not seen any meaningful improvement, with displaced people still living in extremely difficult circumstances, facing severe shortages of food, water, and shelter.
