The Israeli occupation police turned the Old City of Jerusalem and its environs into a military zone on Saturday, setting up checkpoints and restricting movement as Christians marked the “Holy Saturday” service at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.
A large number of police forces were deployed at the entrances of roads leading to the church, obstructing worshipers’ movement, checking the IDs of several young men, and preventing others from entering, amid tightened measures imposed at checkpoints around the Old City.
These measures came after the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem on Friday called for participation in the “Holy Saturday” rituals, following a 40-day closure of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in the wake of the Zio-American aggression against Iran.
