Dozens of Palestinians organized on Wednesday a rally in al-Nuseirat camp in central Gaza Strip, in solidarity with the Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons and in rejection of the execution law.
The event came at the invitation of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, coinciding with the approach of Palestinian Prisoners’ Day on April 17, and with the participation of national and Islamic forces, families of prisoners, and former detainees.
Participants raised banners denouncing violations inside prisons, demanding an end to torture and medical neglect, and the annulment of the execution law, while confirming their adherence to the cause of the prisoners.
This comes after the Israeli Knesset approved, on March 30, the execution law by a majority of 62 votes against 48 and the abstention of one.
The coordinator of the activity, Nahed al-Qirnawi, explained that the rally falls within the efforts to shed light on the suffering of the prisoners in light of the escalation of violations against them.
For her part, a member of the Central Committee of the Democratic Front, Nisreen Abu Amra, pointed out that the commemoration of Prisoner Day this year comes in light of the escalation of Israeli measures against prisoners, especially what relates to the execution law.
The head of the Popular Committee in al-Nuseirat camp, Ayman Abu Shawish, confirmed that the activity reflects the unity of the popular position toward the cause of the prisoners, calling for international action to stop the Israeli violations against them.
The number of Palestinians held in Israeli prisons reaches more than 9,600 prisoners, including 350 children and 73 women, amid reports of their exposure to torture, starvation, and medical neglect.
