Hamas welcomes Lebanon ceasefire, reaffirms support for displaced civilians

The Hamas Movement has welcomed the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon, describing it as the result of the Lebanese people’s resilience and the sacrifices of resistance forces that, it said, thwarted Israeli objectives.

In a statement released on Friday, Hamas said developments in Lebanon demonstrate that “the will of peoples cannot be broken,” arguing that Israel’s military power failed to achieve its goals despite what it described as extensive destructive capabilities.

The Movement linked the escalation in Lebanon and Gaza to what it called a “single project” targeting the region, aimed at imposing dominance by force. It added that continued resistance and popular steadfastness are undermining these efforts.

Hamas paid tribute to the Lebanese people and their resistance, particularly Hezbollah, praising what it described as “heroic resilience” and calling it a significant moment in the broader confrontation with Israel.

The Movement also reaffirmed its support for Lebanon, emphasizing the right of displaced civilians to return safely to their homes and towns. It extended condolences to the families of those killed and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

Israel has been carrying out a large-scale offensive on Lebanon since March 2, coinciding with a US-Israeli war on Iran. According to official figures, the escalation has killed at least 2,167 people, injured more than 7,000, and displaced over one million, while strikes have continued to target civilian areas and infrastructure.
