The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) has reported that only about 700 patients from Gaza have been evacuated for medical treatment abroad since the Rafah border crossing was limitedly reopened in February.
In its statement on Sunday, PRCS described the number of medical evacuations as “extremely small” compared with the scale of the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, warning that Gaza’s worsening healthcare system cannot meet the needs of thousands of sick and wounded people.
More than 18,000 Gaza patients remain on waiting lists for urgent treatment abroad, while many are facing life‑threatening conditions due to the lack of medical capabilities inside Gaza, according to PRCS.
The Red Crescent has warned that ongoing restrictions on the travel of patients and delays in medical evacuations are worsening the crisis, leaving thousands in peril. A
International organizations say Gaza’s healthcare system has been pushed to the brink by extensive Israeli attacks that destroyed hospitals, depleted supplies, and displaced medical staff, creating one of the most severe health emergencies in the territory’s history.
