Israeli strikes kill 10 people, including kids and rescuers, in southern Lebanon

BEIRUT, (PIC)

Five people from the same family were martyred in an overnight Israeli airstrike on the town of Jibchit in southern Lebanon despite a truce in place, according to the National News Agency (NNA).

The strike targeted a building belonging to the Bahja family in the al-Jabal neighborhood, NNA said.

It destroyed the building and killed Mohamed Bahja and his wife Lotfiya, as well as Amani Jaber and her two children, Mariam and Ali Bahja, the agency reported.

Rescue and ambulance teams worked throughout the night to remove debris from the destroyed building and recover the bodies of the victims, the agency added.

On the same day, two successive Israeli strikes on a building in the town of Majdal Zoun in the Tyre district of Southern Lebanon also killed five people, including three rescue workers who went to help those wounded in the initial Israeli attack on the targeted building, Lebanon’s health ministry said.

The Lebanese army said that two of its troops were also wounded in the second Israeli strike in the area.

Despite a US-mediated ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, Israeli forces continue to carry out airstrikes that kill and injure people on a daily basis, primarily in the south and east of the country.

Hezbollah fighters have responded to the Israeli ceasefire violations by launching rocket and drone counterattacks on Israeli targets in northern 1948 occupied Palestine and southern Lebanon.
