Member of Hamas’s political bureau Abdul-Jabbar Sa’eid has affirmed that the Israeli threats to resume the war while negotiating the second phase of the ceasefire agreement are “meaningless” and will not force the Movement to make concessions.
In recent remarks to Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, Sa’eid said that the Israeli occupation regime uses its tactic of “negotiating under fire” with the aim of extracting concessions from Hamas and other factions that it failed to secure on the battlefield.
The Israeli occupation believes its US-backed regional war against Iran would weaken Hamas’s position and push it towards concessions, he said, but stressed that this assumption reflects a fundamental misunderstanding of the Movement’s nature and its unwavering commitment to the rights of the Palestinian people.
Saeed emphasized that Hamas would never relinquish its people’s rights under any circumstances, adding that the occupation had committed every grave crime imaginable in the Gaza Strip, ranging from genocide and starvation to blocking aid, demolishing homes, killing children and women, and abusing prisoners.
Regarding the Cairo negotiations, the Hamas official noted that his Movement had informed mediators that it would not engage in discussions about the second phase until the first phase was fully implemented.
According to him, the first phase of the agreement includes Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza to the borders, opening crossings, allowing in daily humanitarian aid, and enabling the independent administration committee to work inside the Strip.
“These obligations remain unfulfilled, with attacks continuing and casualties reported daily. No further stage can be addressed while the aggression persists,” Sa’eid said.
He clarified that while Hamas “does not oppose preliminary discussions on certain issues of the second stage,” it insists that it “will not enter into any details or understandings until the first phase is fully implemented and the ongoing aggression comes to a halt.”
