Jerusalemite institutions warn of settlers’ intent to defile Aqsa Mosque next Friday

Jerusalemite institutions have warned of a campaign launched by Jewish temple groups in cooperation with government officials to defile the Aqsa Mosque en masse on Friday, May 15, 2026.

In a statement released on Monday, the institutions described the campaign as a “dangerous escalation aimed at changing the longstanding historical and legal status quo at the Aqsa Mosque and creating new precedents that undermine the sanctity and religious stature of the Islamic holy site.”

“Choosing Friday reflects obvious intents to forcibly impose a new fait accompli [at the Aqsa Mosque], in a precedent not seen since the occupation of Jerusalem in 1967,” the institutions added.

They urged Palestinians to intensify their presence at the Aqsa Mosque to protect it against desecration by extremist Jewish groups.

They also called on the international community to take action to protect the Islamic holy site against Israeli violations.

Next Friday, May 15, 2026, coincides with the Hebrew anniversary of Jerusalem Day, when Israel occupied east Jerusalem in 1967.

Recently, Jewish temple groups launched a campaign calling for settlers to be allowed to enter the Aqsa Mosque next Friday and raise Israeli flags inside the Aqsa Mosque compound under police protection.

Meanwhile, Likud Knesset member Amit Halevi urged security minister Itamar Ben Gvir to greenlight settler tours at the Aqsa Mosque on Friday, May 15.
