The Asra Media Office said abuses against Palestinian prisoners held in the isolation wing of Janot Prison are escalating amid harsh detention conditions and ongoing medical neglect.
In a press statement on Thursday, the Office said prisoners continue to suffer from the spread of skin diseases, particularly scabies, due to the lack of regular healthcare and poor living conditions. Prisoners reportedly continue to complain of severe itching and infections without receiving adequate treatment, in addition to being deprived of clothing and other basic necessities.
The statement added that isolation sections are subjected to repeated raids by Israeli prison suppression units, involving strip searches, forcing prisoners to lie face down on the ground, and restraining them for hours while physically assaulting them.
According to the Office, some raids also involved the use of stun grenades and violent attacks on prisoners before they were taken outside in handcuffs and left for long periods in harsh weather conditions without adequate clothing.
The Israeli Prison Service is accused of imposing additional punitive measures, including manipulating shower schedules and depriving prisoners of access to bathing facilities, while subjecting them to threats, restraints, and detention on wet floors as part of what the Office described as a systematic policy aimed at breaking them physically and psychologically.
According to prisoner rights groups and figures released by the Israeli Prison Service through early May 2026, more than 9,400 Palestinians are currently held in Israeli prisons and detention centers, including 87 women and around 360 children. The number of administrative detainees has reached 3,376.
The number of detainees classified as “unlawful combatants” has also reached 1,283, though the figure does not include all Gaza detainees held in Israeli military camps under the same classification, in addition to Arab detainees from Lebanon and Syria.
