Khalil al-Hayya, head of Hamas in the Gaza Strip, has said that Israel’s ongoing crimes against the people in the coastal enclave “cannot be justified,” stressing that the Israeli occupation army is defying signed ceasefire agreements.
“Negotiations have come to a standstill due to Israel’s intransigence and its failure to abide by the Sharm el-Sheikh agreement,” Hayya said in press remarks on Wednesday night.
Hayya accused the Israeli occupation regime of having no regard for any understandings, calling on mediators and sponsors to shoulder their responsibilities in this regard.
Hayya affirmed that his Movement submitted several initiatives and fulfilled all commitments, while Israelis violated agreements by clinging to a “specific position” and refusing to honor first-stage requirements, which blocked progress to phase two.
Hayya emphasized his Movement’s readiness to enter second-stage talks, provided Israel implements first-stage provisions.
Hayya urged mediators to pressure Israel to fully honor its commitments in light of the presence of documents and a signed agreement.
In a related context, the Hamas leader talked about the Israeli strike that targeted a group of citizens in Gaza City’s al-Daraj neighborhood on Wednesday night, which killed two of them, including his son, saying these losses would never intimidate him or his people.
For his part, Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem accused the Israeli occupation of trying to take revenge on Khalil al-Hayya because he represents the resistance’s position and the Palestinian people’s interests.
