Israeli authorities forced Jerusalem resident Jumaa Mohammad Qaraein on Friday to demolish his own home in the Al-Bustan neighborhood of Silwan, south of the Aqsa Mosque.
Qaraein carried out the demolition himself to avoid heavy fines imposed by the Israeli municipality if its crews had executed the demolition.
The home consisted of two rooms and a bathroom and was built on a plot of land measuring approximately 500 square meters. Qaraein was also forced to remove trees and dismantle the metal sheets surrounding the property.
Palestinian residents are often compelled to demolish their own homes under Israeli orders to avoid paying exorbitant fines, including the costs of the demolition itself.
