The Iraqi Foreign Ministry expressed deep concern about the attack that targeted the Iranian city of Isfahan on Friday, stressing that the escalation must not divert attention from the ongoing war on Gaza.
Sources told Al Mayadeen that Iranian air defenses repelled a relatively small drone attack in Tabriz and Isfahan, which was likely launched domestically.
In a statement, the Ministry said it is constantly monitoring the tension in the region, warning of “the dangers of military escalation that threatens security and stability in the region in general.”
“This escalation must not distract attention from the destruction and loss of innocent lives taking place in Gaza,” the statement read.

Baghdad renewed its call to the international community “to carry out its duties and work to stop this suffering immediately.”
Iraq regrets Security Council’s failure to grant Palestine full UN membership
In a related context, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry expressed deep regret for the Security Council’s failure to pass a draft resolution recommending granting Palestine full membership in the United Nations.
Al Mayadeen‘s correspondent reported Thursday that the United States vetoed a decision to award Palestine full membership status in the United Nations, in a meeting of the UN Security Council.
The Ministry underlined that “Palestine has a historical right to establish its state,” adding that “depriving it of this right represents a violation of the rights of the Palestinian people, which exposes the region to the risk of permanent instability and portends devastating consequences.”
