The Unified Nasserist Party expressed its unequivocal rejection of detaining any Egyptian citizen expressing support for the Palestinian people and sorrow over the ongoing massacres there.

The Party condemned, in a statement Wednesday, the recent detainments against a group of Egyptians, mostly women, merely for expressing their stance through a peaceful protest outside the United Nations headquarters in al-Maadi.

The statement demanded the immediate release of those detained in the protest staged in support of Palestinian women’s struggle. It also renewed its call for the release of those previously detained for demonstrating in support of Palestine, as well as several members of the Unified Nasserist Party and all prisoners of conscience.

The Party emphasized the urgent need to halt this condemned and rejected behavior against citizens exercising their constitutional right to peaceful protest.

According to human rights lawyer Khalid Ali, several women detained during the solidarity vigil with Palestinian women outside the UN headquarters arrived at the State Security Prosecution Wednesday for interrogation.

He noted that among those detained Tuesday were journalists, lawyers, students, and passersby who happened to be on the street coinciding with the protest.

The Freedoms Committee of the Egyptian Syndicate of Journalists called for the release of all journalists and citizens detained during the peaceful protest organized outside the UN headquarters, denouncing the UN’s inaction toward the ongoing Israeli aggression against the people in Gaza.

Egyptian activists denounce arrests against Gaza rally participants

It is noteworthy that in early April, Egyptian parties, forces, and national figures condemned the Egyptian security forces’ pursuit of protesters who took part in a demonstration organized by the Egyptian Syndicate of Journalists in solidarity with Gaza.

They further decried the subsequent detainment of several participants in the hours following the protests.

In a statement, the Egyptian National Movement reiterated its commitment to its duty toward Palestine, expressing solidarity and support for the Palestinian people through all available means.

The movement made it clear that campaigns of detainment, intimidation, and threats will not deter or prevent it from fulfilling its obligations toward the Palestinian cause.

Signatories of the statement called on the Egyptian government to immediately release all peaceful opinion detainees, especially as these arrests occurred at the beginning of a new presidential term, during which respect for the constitution and the law was affirmed.

They demanded the entry of all accumulated aid to Gaza without coordination with the Israeli occupation entity and the cancellation of the Camp David agreement, renewing their call to Arab governments and regimes to sever ties with “Israel”.
