The Israeli occupation authority (IOA) forced on Saturday a Palestinian resident to demolish his own home in the east Jerusalem neighborhood of as-Suwannah under the pretext of building without a permit.
According to the Jerusalem Governorate, Sami al-Ayyubi demolished his own home under an Israeli municipal order to avoid paying more fines and costs for noncompliance.
Built on a 70-square-meter plot of land, the home had stood in the holy city since 2016.
Al-Ayyubi explained that the Israeli municipality imposed heavy fees on him to obtain the construction license, which he could not afford, in addition to a monthly fine of 700 shekels that had continued for three years before the final demolition order was issued.
