The Jerusalem Governorate has warned of a social media campaign launched by extremist Jewish temple groups, inciting their followers and supporters to storm the Aqsa Mosque en masse and raise Israeli flags inside it next Wednesday to mark what they call “independence day” (occupation of Palestine).
In a statement on Monday, the Governorate condemned this intended move as “provocative and highly dangerous,” stressing that it constitutes “a blatant violation of the Mosque’s Islamic sanctity” and “an attempt to forcibly impose a new fait accompli at the holy site.”
The Governorate affirmed this campaign is “part of an organized plan led by the Israeli occupation authority, with the participation of settlers, aimed at fully controlling the Aqsa Mosque through intensified tours and violations and imposing a new fait accompli on the ground, in blatant violation of international resolutions and conventions.”
The Governorate dismissed the sovereignty claims used by the Israeli occupation to justify its violations at the Aqsa Mosque, calling them “reprehensible deception.”
The Governorate added that such claims would never confer any legitimacy upon the Israeli occupation at the Aqsa Mosque, stressing that “the Mosque, in its entirety, remains an exclusive right of the Muslim nation.”
The Governorate called for urgent and effective international action to curb the Israeli occupation’s violations against the Aqsa Mosque and its attempts to forcibly control it.
