The foreign ministers of Jordan, Spain, Pakistan, Brazil, Bangladesh, Türkiye, South Africa, Colombia, Libya, Maldives, and Malaysia have condemned Israel’s attack on the “Global Sumud Flotilla” for the Gaza Strip.
In a joint statement, the ministers said that targeting the vessels and detaining humanitarian activists in international waters constitutes a blatant violation of international law and international humanitarian law.
They also expressed deep concern for the safety of the civilian activists and called on Israeli authorities to take immediate steps to ensure their release.
The statement further urged the international community to uphold its legal and moral responsibilities to protect civilians, safeguard the rules of international law, and ensure accountability for those responsible for these violations.
The condemnation comes amid growing international calls to guarantee the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, alongside continued warnings about the worsening humanitarian crisis.
The “Global Sumud Flotilla” is a civilian initiative launched in 2025, with participation from civil society organizations, activists, and volunteers from multiple countries, aimed at breaking the blockade on Gaza and delivering humanitarian assistance.
The flotilla’s vessels departed from the city of Barcelona on April 12 before arriving in Sicily on April 23, where additional ships and activists from Italy later joined through the cities of Syracuse and Augusta.
This latest mission comes as a second phase following the September 2025 flotilla attempt, which ended when Israeli forces intercepted the vessels in international waters in October of the same year and detained hundreds of activists before deporting them.
