Occupied Jerusalem witnessed an escalation in Israeli violations on Thursday, including assaults, arrests, expulsion orders, raids accompanied by fines, as well as attacks carried out by settlers.
The Jerusalem Governorate reported that Israeli forces assaulted Mohammad al-Arabi in Shuafat refugee camp, northeast of Occupied Jerusalem, causing facial injuries while he was attempting to protect his brother, Mahdi al-Arabi, a minor with disabilities. Mahdi was reportedly detained for around 15 minutes and assaulted before being released.
Footage has emerged showing Israeli forces chasing a child with special needs during a raid on the camp before detaining him, in a scene that documented the assault.
In a related incident, Israeli occupation forces raided the Shuafat refugee camp, assaulting and abusing residents and targeting several shop owners.
The governorate also stated that Israeli authorities arrested Aqsa Mosque guard Ismail Siyam near Bab al-Asbat (Lions’ Gate), before releasing him on the condition that he stay away from Jerusalem’s Old City for seven days and pay a financial fine. Meanwhile, another Aqsa guard, Imran al-Rajabi, was issued a six-month ban from entering the Mosque compound, as part of measures targeting employees of the Islamic Waqf Department.
In the town of Silwan, businesses in the al-Thawri neighborhood closed their doors during a raid by Israeli forces and municipal tax officials. Military checkpoints were set up in the area, and tax fines were issued against shops and vehicles.
In a related incident, a group of settlers attempted to steal sheep from shepherds on the outskirts of the town of Hizma near the main road, amid escalating attacks on herders. According to local authorities, 425 sheep have been stolen in the governorate since the beginning of the year.
The Jerusalem Governorate said these practices form part of a systematic policy targeting Palestinian residents and their livelihoods through physical assaults, arrests, expulsion orders, and economic pressure.
