Jewish settlers installed a metal gate between the Qatanin market and the Bab al-Hadeed area in the Old City of Occupied Jerusalem on Monday.
This move has raised Palestinian concerns about accelerating Israeli attempts to impose new faits accomplis in the heart of the historic city.
According to the Jerusalem Governorate, settlers set up a metal gate between the Qatanin market and the Bab al-Hadeed street, particularly near the Old City Youth Association and the “Hosh al-Zorba site,” which Jewish groups had previously seized.
The Governorate said that a group of settlers performed Jewish prayers in the area during the installation of this door, warning that the gate would restrict Palestinian citizens’ movement.
Local sources reported that Jerusalemite residents went to an Israeli police station demanding the removal of the gate, but the police only denied their responsibility for its installation and took no steps to remove it.
