Over 9,600 Palestinian and Arab prisoners in Israeli jails

The number of Palestinian and Arab detainees in Israeli prisons has exceeded 9,600 people as of early April 2026, according to Palestinian prisoner organizations.

This came in a joint statement released on Tuesday by the Commission of Detainees’ and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs, the Palestinian Prisoner Society, and Addameer Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association.

According to the statement, the number of female prisoners has reached 86, including two jailed prior to the genocidal war on Gaza, along with 25 held under administrative detention.

About 350 child prisoners under the age of 18 are currently held in Ofer and Megiddo prisons, while two girls are detained in Damon prison.

The organizations further noted that by the end of 2025, the number of children held under administrative detention had reached about 180.

With regard to the martyrs, since 1967, about 326 prisoners have died in detention, including 89 since the start of the genocidal war. Meanwhile, dozens of detainees from Gaza remain subjected to enforced disappearance.
