The Executive Board of UNESCO, at its 224th session, unanimously adopted a resolution concerning the follow-up on the implementation of the organization’s decisions regarding the situation in the Gaza Strip.
The resolution highlighted the damage inflicted on hundreds of schools, universities, and heritage sites in Gaza as a result of Israeli attacks, as well as the serious risks faced by journalists and media workers, in violation of international humanitarian law and the organization’s principles.
Palestine’s Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, Adel Attieh, welcomed the unanimous adoption of the resolution, emphasizing the importance of intensifying international efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.
He noted that the organization’s General Conference had adopted four resolutions in favor of Palestine last November, addressing the city of Jerusalem, the impact of the situation in Gaza on UNESCO’s areas of work, support for the continuity of UNRWA’s educational activities, and assistance to educational and cultural institutions in the occupied Arab territories.
The resolution comes amid growing international solidarity with the Palestinian cause and a decline in Israel’s global standing following the crimes and massacres committed against the Palestinian people over the past two years.
