Harassment and humiliating inspection against female prisoners in Damon

RAMALLAH, (PIC)

The Asra Media Office (AMO) revealed on Saturday an escalation of violations against Palestinian female prisoners in Israel’s Damon Prison, pointing out that Israeli forces belonging to the prison administration carried out more than 30 assaults on the prisoners during the past three months.

According to the Office’s statement, the female prisoners face harsh humanitarian conditions inside the prison, including bad food, high humidity, and a lack of hygiene supplies, in addition to what it described as verbal harassment and humiliating inspections inside the bathrooms with the presence of soldiers at the doors.

The statement added that the prison administration keeps surveillance cameras open permanently, which pushes the female prisoners to sleep in the hijab, while pregnant and sick female prisoners suffer from medical negligence and the refusal to conduct the necessary examinations for them.

AMO pointed out that Israeli repression forces stormed, on May 13, the departments of female prisoners in Damon Prison, and took them out to the yard while they were handcuffed, amid assaults and insults.

Earlier this month, the Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS) said that Israeli forces carried out during last March and April at least 10 attacks inside the same prison.

The club explained, based on testimonies of recently released female prisoners, that the attacks included beating, binding, and forcing female prisoners to lie on the ground, in addition to solitary confinement, strip searches, and starvation.

Palestinian and Israeli human rights data indicate the presence of more than 9,400 Palestinians inside Israeli prisons, including 350 children and 73 women, amid continuous accusations against Israel of practicing torture, medical negligence, and starvation against those prisoners.

Since the beginning of the war on Gaza in October 2023, violations inside Israeli prisons have escalated, which led to the death of dozens of Palestinian prisoners, according to Palestinian human rights institutions.
